Nick Tyson is a filmmaker and producer based in New York City. He has produced projects in a range of mediums, from short films and mobile apps to museum and television documentaries. During the past five years, he has produced over 80 hours of documentary television for Discovery ID, HBO and WNET. His interactive documentaries detailing the history of World War I and World War II are on display at American military cemetery visitor centers across Europe, and are used extensively by educators. The mobile application he produced for the Normandy American Cemetery won first place in the National Association for Interpretation’s digital media category in 2015.
He has directed several short films including a short documentary on the history of the NYC LGBT Community Center for its 30th Anniversary, as well as a short documentary on the Brooklyn Rescue Mission, a community garden and food bank in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, for the Center for Science in the Public Interest’s Food Day celebration. His short fiction film, Walk with Me, created during a Prague Film School workshop, won the audience award for best film in competition screening there. Receding, a short narrative film he produced in 2017, will be premiering at festivals in 2019. He is a member of the NYC-based CURVE Filmmakers Collective.
In 2017, he was a semi-finalist for the National-Geographic Fulbright Grant. In his spare time, he submits FOIA requests to government offices. He is a graduate of Columbia University where he studied Film and Anthropology.
